Elsa A. Murano
Elsa A. Murano was appointed Vice Chancellor and Dean of Agriculture
and Life Sciences in 2005 and also serves as Director of the Texas Agricultural
Experiment Station. In 2001, she was appointed Undersecretary for Food Safety,
U. S. Department of Agriculture, by President George W. Bush. She served as
the highest ranking food safety official in the United States government,
with the responsibility of overseeing the policies and programs of the Food
Safety Inspection Service (FSIS). Prior to this appointment, she was appointed
professor in the Department of Animal Science at Texas A&M University
after having been an associate professor in that same department since 1995.
She is a native of Havana, Cuba.
